It is no secret that the Cliffs of Moher is the absolute must see in Ireland and after seeing them for myself I have to agree. They were absolutely spectacular, honestly breathtaking. I lucked out when I
went and got a beautiful day. Blue skies, a light breeze, it was truly the perfect weather to be able to see the cliffs for all their glory. There was a tower on the far end, and you have ability of the sight-seeing area, and they allow you to go the top and see some island and a higher view of the cliffs. I absolutely love being in nature. Seeing the wonders of the Earth honestly brings me so much joy it's hard to contain sometimes. The only thing that could have made that experience better was seeing puffins on the rocks. I think puffins are the cutest animals but unfortunately, they won't be back until April when it starts to warm up. However, that didn't stop me from buying a little puffin stuffed animal at the gift shop that I have proudly named Fin the puffin.
While I was at the cliffs, I do what I normally do and take a second to soak in all that I am seeing. I start phasing out the sounds around me and just focus on the water crashing on the rocks and the birds squawking from above.
It was truly such a peaceful place to sit and reflect on everything I have seen and done so far. It is hard to believe I have been in Ireland for almost a month now, it honestly feels like I have been her much longer. With everything I have seen and done so far, it is like I've been here my whole life.
As I was looking out into the ocean from the top of the O'Brien's tower, it reminded me of the poem The Tower by William Yeats. The poem itself uses the tower as a metaphor for the eternal strength of nature and how even after time passes, it still stands strong and tall. The cliffs have stood tall for a millennium, enduring years of wind, rain, and abuse from mother nature herself. However, no matter what is thrown at them, they still remain as a symbol of strength and beauty. A line is the poem reads:
"I climbed to the top of the tower,
To look at the Irish sky."
In my specific case, I did climb to the top of a tower and looked at the Irish sky. I scanned the horizon for wildlife and stared off into the distance, trying to comprehend the vastness of the ocean that
surrounded me. There is a sense of timelessness while you watch the cliffs. It's like nothing else matters in that moment. Everything else on your mind seems to disappear as you look at the wonderment in front of you. It was genuinely one of the coolest places I have ever been, and I hope that I will be able to go back one day - and hopefully this time see a puffin!
